The Final Word on Food
While Babe graciously agreed to officially be in charge of Christmas Dinner on Saturday night, I contributed the Olive Cheese Bread and this amazing Martha Stewart Chocolate Peppermint Trifle. It was far better than I ever could have imagined. White chocolate mousse, chocolate pudding and cake, chocolate syrup with Godiva Liqueur. It was so good.
I learned how to make "Yummy Punch" from my friend, Kimberly. I was particularly proud of the ice ring. I am sure nobody noticed it. The punch bowl was a wedding gift from The Paper Girl :)
We had a deli meat and cheese tray with croissants...
A Christmas staple in my family, Chipped Beef Dip with Fritos...
A new recipe that I really liked, Ricotta Stuffed Roma Tomatoes...
My mother-in-law's special request, Artichoke Dip...yum.
One of my favorite things to cook when taking food to a party, Meatballs (with Chili Sauce and Grape Jelly)
The homemade fudge, toffee and Peppermint Bark. OK, I admit, I got a little help with the Peppermint Bark from Williams-Sonoma.
The Sausage Balls, Cream Cheese stuffed Jalapenos and Franks in a Blanket. Yes, the Franks in a Blanket were a special request AND they were from Sam's, but they really are quite good.
I forgot to take pictures of everything and missed a couple things. I was so tired by the end of the evening last night I could barely lift a finger. My sweet sister-in-law and mother-in-law cleaned up everything and did the dishes while I sat in a complete lifeless daze wondering how I ever made it through.
I am thinkin' pizza for our upcoming Christmas celebration. The kitchen will miss me dearly for the next few days. or weeks. Maybe a month...

Please note, this is the only time JLS is silent. I am sure the Lord appreciates that, too!

Cookin' Mama
We pre-made and froze gingerbread cookies. When the boys' cousin arrives at the end of this week we will have a cookie decorating party! (aka giant mess) But, isn't that what memories are made of?

It Snowed!
As I drove home with the snow in the headlights, I got a warm place in my heart. It FINALLY felt like Christmas.
Of course, it was 73 degrees the day before, so none of the snow stuck.

Today
during JBS's half day of school. We were able to get a new "Hoy" (horse) for JBS, as his first one was "taken" from our front yard along with our car seats and 2 boxes of Junior League Cookbooks. Another story. He desperately missed riding his stick horse that cloppity-clops with JLS, so I promised him I would find another.
am's round #1. Please don't tell Babe how much I spent. However, it was the first trip for Christmas baking. I was especially delighted to have enough time to drive back across town to my house to deposit the cold things before we picked JBS up at school. From there, we went on to HEB to spend more money on food. (Yes, me and both toots, ALONE.) Again, only round #1 of grocery shopping. Making and fre
ezing. Making and freezing. The story of my life.Tuesday, December 9, 2008
Earth Mom Take One
you may laugh and think I am crazy for just now "getting it". This is the story. I have become a huge fan of my nutritionist. Most of you who read my little blog know that I have Crohn's disease. For over ten years I have struggled with incredible pain, lots of drugs and a few surgeries. I have had doctors that I love and that are very good doctors attempt to treat me. However, after ten years of having medication thrown at me, I am sick of it. No one has healed me, yet. I take lots of drugs and especially in the last year of stress, I have had terrible abdominal pain. Blinding pain that got me to the point of trying ANYTHING to help me. Even visiting a chiropractor.Monday, December 8, 2008

Thanksgiving at the Lake
ng in the summer. There may not be heat and skiing and swimming, but there is cool air, hiking, hunting for animals and playing in the woods. Here's a few pics from our time at the lake. It was good for the soul to breathe a little cold air. Yesterday in Houston it was 77 degrees. (ugh!)The boys spend more time outside playing in the Fall than they do in the summer heat. One thing for sure, this family's blood has already thinned. We were coooold!
Big Daddy hauled the Jeep to the lake for lots of driving time....
The boys hiked Big Daddy's trails. This would be "The Pretzel" as BD named it...because the limbs have grown to look like...a pretzel!
We played at on the shore of the lake, skipping rocks/throwing boulders....
We towed Babe's boat out of storage and let the motor purr a little. It doesn't get used so much anymore....:( The two "hear no evils" weren't so impressed with the sounds of the motor.
For any of you who are Penelope's Pitstop fans, here is the Plasma Car in motion...
My last and final picture is of, well, my little sister, Sally. Big Daddy threw bumpers in the lake for her, which she loved. I caught this funny looking shot of her as she jumped off the dock...
There's just something about the Lake in the fall...
