Last weekend I went to Dallas to

spend the weekend with 2 of my closest friends from high school, "Belle" and "LGL." I was so looking forward to it. Belle lives in Bartlesville and LGL lives in Dallas, so we spent the weekend at LGL's house (the middle) talking, eating, and working on our scrapbooks. A friend of mine (clearly a male) was cracking up that we worked on our scrapbooks all weekend, but there is nothing more therapeutic for me than sitting with the girls chatting and catching up while attempting to catch up on my scrapbooks. Most girls might be whoopin' it up going out, but this prego is just fine sitting and talking and getting to see LGL's cute kiddos.
So, this blog would be boring without a favorite story about each of them. I have known LGL and her family since elementary school. She was a class behind me, but we not only lived in a small town, but we were involved in many of the same things, like tennis. I remember having to play against LGL in a tournament when we were probably late middle school. I loved to play tennis, but my personality on the court lacked intensity for sure. LGL knew intensity and competitiveness. Completely clueless, I was walking back to start the next point and LGL, in her frustration, hit a ball at me really hard. I heard people breathe in around me, completely missing the action that I was the center of and also missing being hit by the ball. LGL and I have not discussed this much since we were 13, but clearly, our friendship was not affected by her attempt on my life. (right?:))
Belle. Oh, Belle. One of our best stories has been laughed at and discussed many times and, of course, revolves around tennis. She already knows what it is if she is reading right now. Belle also had intensity on the court, which, in high school I was still lacking. My doubles partner and I did well, but we were always having fun on the court. We always had to play Belle and her partner in practice. Belle and I were fast friends, but on the court, not so much. So after a dramatic match, I talked to our coach and asked if we really had to play against each other all. the. time. Unfortunately, Belle overheard the discussion and wasn't so pleased. I followed her as she ran to her black Prelude trying to explain. Out of the sunroof of her car, she threw my Kenny Rogers Greatest Hits (yeah, man!) TAPE at me and sped home. We still get tickled over that, including Kenny Rogers and the fact that it was a tape. Clearly, that didn't scar our friendship either.
Both of these girls are amazing friends with a huge heart that loves Jesus. They have been my rocks through many good and bad times. I love to spend time with them, I love to watch their families grow and I love them. What a treasure to have such amazing friends and to have kept up with them since we were in elementary and junior high school. To the next 20 years, girls!
May we never play tennis against each other again...
